California Dealing With West Nile Outbreak

The West Nile virus can hit someone suddenly and without warning. That is how it was for 72 year old Jack Austin who said that he did not even remember a mosquito even biting him. Austin - a Duarte resident - spent nine days in the hospital being treated for the virus and told reporters that he did not even remember this stay.

Arthroscopy In Patients Not Necessary For Patients With Osteoarthritis

A new study - that was published in the September 11th issue of the New England Journal of Medicine - shows that an arthroscopic surgery for osteoarthritis in the knee may have absolutely no benefits to contribute for medical of physical therapy or recovery.

178 men and women were asked to participate in the study. Everyone of them underwent the surgery. None of them showed any improvement than those who just received medication and physical therapy only.

Salmonella Outbreak In Alfalfa Sprouts

Yet another outbreak of salmonella contamination has erupted and this time the infected vegetable are alfalfa sprouts. Already nine people in the state of Washington have been ill from them and four others in Oregon. Two of those people were admitted to the hospital.
