Let Your Sexual Partner’s Know About STD’s By E-Card
Researchers have found a new way for people who have tested for STD’s to tell their sexual partners without feeling embarrassed. Public health educators analyzed the effects that inSPOT.org would have on people. The website was launched in 2004 and is a place that lets sexual partners notify each through an e-card if they have been exposed to an STD.
The e-card is a quick way to inform them that they were exposed and may have received the same STD from them. The e-card will direct them to information they need to know about the STD and how they can get tested. Only a few cities including; San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles have signed on to the site. But even though it is not yet widely used analysts believe that it has great potential.
Over 750 people visit the site every day and more then 30,000 of those people have sent off e-cards to more then 49,500 since the site has been launched. The card has space for someone to put in a personal message.
When trying to determine how well the cards worked the researchers took a glance at the disease rates and the rates at which the recipients actually linked to the test-site information. Their research showed that 26*.8% of those who received the e-mails in 2006 and 28.5% in 2007 linked through to the site.
