Protect Yourself From Breast Cancer

Both men and women have serious problems that they must watch out for. Probably the most common health risk that women have is breast cancer. It never used to be that common – but over the years it has grown to be something that most women have to go through.

It is important for women of every age to know how to keep an eye out for this problem. So that when they find any sign of it they can immediately make an appointment with their doctor. They will have a better chance of surviving if they catch it early.

Researchers are always finding ways of defeating the risk of breast cancer, which is becoming more and more dominant in women. The encourage women to visit their doctor for a yearly mammography and even to add an MRI to some of those visits. The MRI will help the doctors to better look for the cancer.

When researchers compared the standard mammography x-rays to the ”contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging” for 650 women, ages 35 to 49, who had roughly a 50 percent chance of carrying the gene mutation linked with breast cancer. Alone, mammograms were 40 percent accurate and MRIs were 77 percent accurate, but using both raised accuracy to 94 percent.

For you women whose family has a history of breast cancer you want to be extra careful. You need to make sure that you are faithful at getting annual screenings with both methods when you’re 10 years younger than your mother or sister was at her diagnosis. If not, start annual mammograms at the age of 40.
