Stop Smoking With Free Help
Are you trying to stop smoking - but having a hard time with it? Don’t beat yourself up about it - instead get some free help. The Great American Smokeout is a day set aside to help people quit for at least one day. They hope that if they can get people to quit for one day they can help them to quit for good.
Jill Sabo is the tobacco education coordinator for Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center and she knows that this program can help those who are willing to give it a try. “I’m an ex-smoker,” she said, “and so it makes it easier to work with people when I do the ‘Freedom from Smoking’ classes, because I know what I’m asking people to do and I also know it’s completely possible to quit.”
But she knows that even though it can be done it can also be hard for many people to do. “It’s not easy at all. It’s not. There are lots of things you can do — nicotine replacement is something I highly recommend,” said Sabo.
On Thursday she spent all of her day at the event that took place at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. During this time she shared information to people on how to help them quit. One way that they were encouraging them was giving out free coupons to anyone who would trade in their pack of cigarettes.
In January and February Sabo will be leading a Freedom from Smoking class that is free to anyone. For more information on the Freedom from Smoking classes contact Jill Sabo at 574-239-5298.
